NEW "MY NAME IS SHINGO" COVERS

On the always-hopping UMEZZ.COM blog, our favorite uncle Kazuo Umezuo has posted covers for volumes 1-4 of "My Name Is Shingo". These covers are part of the ongoing UMEZZ PERFECTION series of definitive re-releases from Shogakukan, celebrating Umezz's 50+ years in the business. All of the releases to date have been super fresh, and these don't disappoint. Check out the minimal spot colors and digital font treatment!

Volume 1

Volume 2

Volume 3

Volume 4

Each book is around ~150 pages and sells for 1500 Yen. Volumes 5 & 6 will be released later in 2010. For other posts about UMEZZ PERFECTION releases, check out these results!

I really like these covers as well.
They may have gone a bit overboard with the page design this time, though. The umezz.com bbs is loaded with complaints about the neon inks they used on some of the pages. It doesn't bother me at all, but I can see where they are coming from.

for whatever reason i particularly like the image for the vol. 4 cover.

@voidmare: Interesting-- I'd have to see the pages to see what I think (but I bet I'm a bit less particular and down with more down with weird experiments than the average reader).

@Matt: Oh yeah, that one is absolutely creepy and captivating. Back when they originally launched the UMEZZ50 celebration, that image was used (in all white on black) for a limited edition BEAMS shirt. I'll see if I can pull up the image from my files/old posts :)

Those are so fresh! I agree with Matt that vol. 4 is the stand out, though I do like Vol. 1 too.
Seeing these makes me wish for more Umezu in English and, also, a bit bummed that I can't read the originals. :(

hey same hatters... wasn't really sure where else to put this, but I haven't seen it covered elsewhere..

this blogger dissected the contents of an issue of Garo, and its pretty interesting. Its not too far fetched to say that Westerners' have probably overestimated the quality of the magazine.

There's some other interesting manga content on the site as well, much of which i haven't seen before. sadly, the dude's writing skills are pretty poor and most of the articles come off as fairly uninformative.

But... Garo!

Very nice. I think I've asked this before, but is there any solid, respectable place online for buying outsider manga (like this one and others at sh)?
