MEANWHILE, OVER ON THE EAZB

I am thinking to start doing a weekly "LINKS" post, just to capture all the notable stuff that I plan to post about and then run out of time and forget to post about... Would folks dig that? Maybe I'll start doing that tomorrow!

In other site news, I'm looking for a few folks to deputize to help run the (currently) wimpy Same Hat TUMBLR. I started it a while ago, as a place specifically to share random photos and YouTube clips, and while it's a great platform for that-- I keep getting distracted by other pressing projects, print runs of Prison for Bitches, and Twitter. So... yeah! I'm looking for 3-4 people (to start) to take over and help contribute to that Tumblr! (Azraelito? Jaclyn?)

Ideally, people who have weird and varied (but not too gnarly) tastes, who are into a wide range of topics (visual art, books, music, games, etc) and wanna share interesting finds with the rest of the crew... this doesn't have to be actual things you own/IRL stuff, but anything rare/interesting/timely from the web. It's a thankless job, but I'd send you rare goodies for taking part! Send me an email if you're interested! --deference goes to longtime posters/readers and folks that currently doing cool blogging or sharing online.

[[UPDATE! I'm all set on contributors for now, thanks to everyone that emailed in!!]]

So as practice for a weekly Links Roundup post, I wanted to remind folks to check out the group Electric Ant Zine Blog too. Lots of goodies lately, including:
  • A Tale of Revenge on Ice: Getting ICE'd on my birthday, and then getting sweet revenge (Shawshank Redemption style!) [LINK]

  • Janelle Monae fan art: Featuring fan art from Angie Wang, Lamar Abrams, and 20 other artists! [LINK]

  • HARVEYJAMES super-cheap art commissions: He is going to draw me either Kei from Akira or the spiral-faced girl from Uzumaki [LINK]

  • Porno shoes by Lisa Hanawalt She won the internet, why do the rest of us even try? Oh yeah, NSFW. [LINK]

  • Jason Shiga rap tribue to 2Pac Long live the Shigacorn and his blasphemous rhymes! [LINK]

  • The terrifying prints of y16o Same Hat body horror fans will not want to miss this stuff [LINK]

I've never really used tumblr... I take it you just post cool links and stuff from other sites? I'd be up for helping out if you want?

I've also got some old garo's and other Japanese language mangas that would appeal to same hatters if it's more about scanning images and posting?

Hi Same Hatters, I'm a big manga fan who is currently in Japan. I went, for the first time ever, to Nakano Broadway and I cannot believe how amazing (and superior to Akiba) it is. Are there any other places in Japan that are similar to this?

Aaaaargh... I need to dig through my inbox because if I remember correctly Ryan sent me an invite to join the EAZB. Oooooops.

Quick heads up. I'm in the middle of posting Garo/Tokion scans up on my Tumblr. So far I've hashed my way through Hanakuma and Kiriko Nananan.

@VIP: Glad you enjoyed Nakano Broadway so much! Then entire Chuo-sen is where it's at--- I'm a huge fan of the entire area north and NE of Nakano station, and of course Koenji used book shopping and bars in Kichijoji are awesome too!

@ROOT: Oh yeah, all zine contributors are invited to contribute to the EAZB, and you've been in both issues! I can re-send that to you :)

@Jackal- Just so you know, that image by Maki Sasaki. He published a few experimental pieces in Garo in the 70's (I don't know exactly how many) and is still an active illustrator nowadays.

Ryan S said...

@jimpac: Thanks dude!

@jackal: Yeah, this is actually not a Shintaro Kago piece! It's by Maki Sasaki. You can see the pages (and read some details/context) here: http://samehat.blogspot.com/2010/01/weekend-reading-desert-eyeball-by-maki.html

Do you mind if i do a quick post of this tattoo?

Hi S/H guys,
totally off-topic, BUT:
have you got any news regarding the AX Anthology from Top Shelf Productions. The release date was supposed to be 15th July, but the book was deleted from all stores I know (Amazon, Books Depository) and my preordered copy has not arrived. Do you have any news of the book being postponed (again) or what on Earth happened? thanks for the update...

Another off topic one: While searching to preorder Maruo's "Strange Tale of Panorama Island", I come across this http://www.betterworldbooks.com/guro-art-id-115631822X.aspx

Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a biography or something? I would appreciate any kind of info you may have :)

Ryan S said...

@Karel: Thanks for the comment! I wouldn't worry too much, a lot of folks I know got copies of the AX book this past week at Comic-Con in San Diego. I have read the entire book (a review copy on PDF) it's a fantastic collection. If I read correctly, it should be coming out to pre-order folks in the next 2-3 weeks!!!

@Myrto: Whoa, what is that book? I've never heard anything about it-- the cover makes it look fake almost? I will dig around some more. PS: Sorry, I'm so behind on everything! I owe you an email :)

I don't have anything spectacular to say except HELL YEAH on Wang + Janelle Monae. Fashion creamed my pants, obviously.
