AMAZING SHOJO WORK BY LITTLE THUNDER

Little Thunder is one of our favorite contemporary illustrator/cartoonists, an artist around my age working in Hong Kong. She does narrative comics, along with illustration and design gigs for rad products and sites around the world.

Last week, Little Thunder posted a new batch of sketchbook pages, paintings, and illustrations to her Flickr. I actually gasped when I saw the Shojo manga-inspired "JOEY" series, which summon the sexy and rich textures and compositions of Moto Hagio and other Magnificent 49ers masters.

Check out more of LT's work on her flickr and facebook page, enjoy these pieces, and spread the word about her awesomeness:

The 暴走族/bondage-style pic is absolutely fantastic. I don't know what it is, the lines, or the barely constrained sexual tension, but DAMN it's good.

Do you know where I could find anything by her in English? I went searching as soon as I saw these and everything looks great (except I saw some comics on her flickr that made some pretty lame references to Pulp Fiction and Kurt Cobain). You've lit a fire in me. Now stoke it. lol . . . do you know when this will be released? If it hasn't been already. I'd buy this shit from Hong Kong just to look at the illustration.

@Toras: She's amazing huh?

@Yukiko: LT speaks english but she hasn't been published in the "western" world as far as I know. Her stuff is amazing, and she's more famous in HK than you might guess-- at least, she works with big clients.

I would love for MOME to publish a comic by her :)

Aren't Belgium and France considered the Western world? She's published both those places. If she is publish there why can't she be published in America. Count down to tantrum . . .

I want anything possible published. Though I would like JOEY very much. I like a lot of Shoujo, but I'm very new to it, well y'know besides my generation eating up everything that was on Toonami, including Sailor Moon.

I'm going back to Japan again this summer. Maybe I can get the complete collection of Kaze to Ki no Uta that I saw at Mandrake! lol . . . anyway I got off topic.

Yeah I would want JOEY because I love Shoujo, but also some other jumped out at me. I can't remember what the name was of her French published serial but that one looked particularly awesome too from the frames that are on the flickr.

@yukiko: cool, well there you go! I always think in these cases that there's probably a reason things have happened the way they have-- perhaps she hasn't wanted to publish in English yet, or the right people haven't approached her, etc.

She is pretty successful as a commercial artist, and it seems like folks outside of EU and HK are catching on to her stuff. I should talk to her again on Facebook about this stuff :)

Thanks for the comments as usual!

I'm a really selfish person though. I don't care what the reason is I just want her comics! ;D
