Bharath also writes about Indian comics and culture on his blog, dabbles in drawing 4koma strips and (from what I can gather) is working on a documentary about manga!
You will be jealous and excited (like I was) to learn that in the course of their trip to Japan, they met a handful of our favorite mangaka. Here are some photos:
MOTO HAGIO
Details in this post.
SHINTARO KAGO
Details in this post.
And finally..... Bharath's favorite manga artist:
JUNJI ITO
Details in this post.
They also visited COMIKET in August:
I read about Comiket in Disappearance Diary (it's really briefly mentioned) but nothing hinted at the sheer magnitude and DENSITY of people. That last photo = SD comic-con on steroids. I don't think I could handle it, though I'd like to try
ReplyDeleteGood lord, Comiket... That's something I have to experience at least once in my lifetime.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I admit, this guy makes me green with envy. Purple, even! How I would love to meet all those artists...
@helllllen: dude, it's INSANE. The thing I like about that last photo especially is that it looks like ENTIRELY SMALL TABLES... no media conglomerates with their huge ass booths, etc. Can you imagine digesting all that manga goodness?
ReplyDeleteI seriously think sometime (next summer?) we should get the bang gang together for a 7 day exploratory trip to japan and do either COMIKET, UMEZZFEST or DESIGN FESTA. Whatttayasay?
@Firefly: It sounds scary, honestly. I'm excited to learn more about the film NUMBER21PIX was working on there (and that led them to all these mangaka!)
thanks a lot for writing this! there are more production photos here-->
