This past weekend, my buddy Nate was in town from Tokyo and we had a blast catching up. In between eating burritos, drinking beers, and a metal show in Oakland, Nate handed over some amazing Shintaro Kago presents he picked up for me last Fall!
As you might recall, Nate met Kago twice last year- first at a gallery show/signing on Halloween, and then again at Design Festa. Between the two events, Nate managed to wrangle me a signed Shintaro Kago digital print, a bunch of postcards, and a copy of the Paranoia Street DVD!

In addition to the goodies for me, Nate brought with him a present for our buddy Ben- a Kago self-published mini featuring a bunch of krasue gags! This book is en route to Ben right now, but Nate let me snap these photos before he dropped it in the mail:
I'm still figuring out the what & when, but plan to give away some of the postcards as Same Hat contest presents in the near future. I'll keep you guys posted!

ReplyDeleteI googled a bit about Krasue and found this http://www.manananggals.com/. It kinda off collect some info about thai/phillipine/malaysia myths. The fun fact is that are even movies featuring krasue like this one http://www.manananggals.com/images/Penang80.jpg. I had no idea they were so popular.

Thanks for the link--- I'll go check it out now! I remember Giant Robot magazine had a thing about Thai horror film posters (some issue in their 20s... 24?), and there was an image of a Krasue... That was the first time I ever saw that monster.

Where did Nate manage to get the self-published comic from? It looks amazing. Then again so does everything he brought back! Sooo jealous!

ReplyDelete@jimpac: He bought it direct from Kago-san. It's listed as a Doujinshi on Kago's site... But I assume they have it at some of the indie book shops (TACO che, some other shops in Koenji, etc)

ReplyDeleteman, what the hell; I definitely read this post but I had completely forgotten about the Krasue gag self-published comic. Fucking wonderful! Since they're self-published, I wonder if there's any hope of actually getting my hands on one... I'm really grateful for your photos of the inside of the book right now!
