MY SHINTARO KAGO ORIGINAL!

I had the thrill of the year this afternoon, when my original Shintaro Kago illustration arrived in the mail! The large piece came packaged lovingly in a hard plastic folder and another plastic bag, then stuffed in a padded envelope hand-address by Kago himself.

The piece I bought is called Bikkuri Mokuziroku / びっくり黙示録 and is absolutely amazing in person. I can wait to get this puppy framed! Please enjoy the pictures below!

If you're still interested in snagging one, Kago continues to add new pieces to his original art sale page, which was recently updated to say that he will begin selling the original pages of Abstraction soon.

Based on the sales notes on his pages of pieces we already blogged about, I reckon that Shintaro Kago has made well over $3000 in just a week of selling his art to overseas fans.

Hey Ryan!
i love Shitaro Kago and was wonder how much the shipping was for you? if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks

Ryan S said...

@Umz: It was really cheap-- only an extra 600 Yen ($7.00). He offered three choices, 1200 Yen for 2day, 600 yen for 1st class and like 200-300 yen for 2 week shipping.

It didnt add much to the cost!

Quick question, sorta random, but... how was it packed up? I'm super interested in a picking up a piece, but virtually everything that ends up in my mailbox is up totally fucked up due to the assholes that work at the local post office. If the same happened here, I'd totally lose it.

I emailed Kago and asked him the same question and offered extra money if he can super reinforce the package, but figured it might help to ask an actual recipient first!

@FortNinety: Good question! Mine was just on top of the post box in the foyer of my apartment building, so no one had tried to squash it in anywhere... the page itself is in a hard plastic case (kinda like how old basketball card holders?) not stiff but really thick and solid. that is inside a thing plastic bag, and then the whole thing was in a bubble-padded envelope. basically, you couldn't have twisted or folded the thing if you wanted, on account of the plastic holder. But it wasn't totally stiff, between flat boards/cardboard that is un-bendable like you might want...
Is that helpful?

which piece did you order? I am leaning heavily toward buying a 2nd one, i am so in love with this one I got. I just emailed him asking to buy the Postman piece he just put up :)

@Jaclyn: So cool! Which one did you end up ordering?

My is arrive(in France) 3 days after Kag send it and the shipping cost was 1500 Yen. What I can say is I love my art and that the shipping package is great and very well done.

Mine is called Ekimae Romankikou. when deciding whether or not to buy it, my friends described it as 'foot-girl', its the crazy-looking on with the girl with a foot attacking her face.. i was just inexplicably drawn to it from the beginning.

I'm also contemplating ordering a copy of the manga that image is a cover for. it would be in japanese, which I can't really read, but it would be for the sake of having it i guess :D

Oh, and by the way, that new Postman one is goddamn amazing, so my sentiment on you buying that is both 'that's great!' and 'I hate you', haha.

Hopefully more stuff is making its way in there...

It looks even better than I imagined! So far all the things I've REALLY wanted sold out before I had a chance to nab them (fuck you JE :P) but I will get one eventually.

I might nab a certain page of Abstraction if I'm fast enough and it is cheap enough. Man if he sells the Vice cover I'm gonna run to the bank as fast as I can.

@zytroop

We can all blame Ryan for letting us know this was going on, eh?

Ryan S said...

@JE & zytroop: Sorry boys! I can only blame myself.

oh and blame Kago too :)

Ryan S said...

@Akime :)

@Hi!: I'll post photos of the original for you!

@Jaclyn: Yeah, I sorta gasped when I saw it on the screen. I should only have bought one moneywise, but I had to grab that Postman one when I saw it :B I'm nervous he's gonna keep posting cooler and cooler ones, haha. it's too damn tempting

it's not nice having no money down, and low monthly payment. but I would love to own the one with the clock . too much style to handle. but 150 euros...arrrrrgh >.<

Ryan S said...

@tree: Ah damn, that one is so expensive! Must be because of the crazy-detailed spiral background

FortNinety said...

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner!

In the end, I decided to test my chances and pick up a piece. Nabbed this one to be precise...

http://www1.odn.ne.jp/~adc52520/tuhanoversea/aoiheya.jpg

... I explained my situation to Kago, who then put my piece in a metal frame for an addition 1000 yen, which is not too bad. I'm still expecting the worse, but fingers crossed! I'll be sure to post pics on my blog and will certainly pass them along to you.

Ryan S said...

@FortNintety: oh wow, you got the Copik marker one, how cool! Glad that you & Kago worked out a safe way to ship the original art safely :) Congrats!
