Freshly printed and delivered to the Drawn & Quarterly office, they've posted on the D&Q blog a photo of what the English edition of Yoshihiro Tatsumi's massive A Drifting Life looks like...

Nice! The random grey bubbles on the front look a little out of place, but I guess the drawing (which is beautiful itself) alone wouldn't be enough...
Also, look at the fucking size of that thing! I think Ode To Kirihito may have met its match...
i came
Looks pretty nice
Siiiiick! It's an absolute beast! You going to try to blag an advance copy?
My only quibble would be that D&Q flip their manga releases but, seriously, as if you can really complian when they're releasing titles of this sort of quality. Can't wait.
@Eoin: Yeah, it's a big strange but I bet it actually looks nice with the right texture. This is gonna be a weekend-long project (at least) to read.
@Nate: me 2
@zytroop: p-p-pretty big book
@jimpac: I agree--- I'm not a big fan of their process (not flipping all panels, but re-arranging them one by one so the flow still works), but you can't argue with teh production value. I'd love to read an advance copy... I wonder if I can snag one? I did help with a grant thingy for D&Q a while back :)
Maybe you could snag me an advance copy too :)
Seriously, though, I can't wait. I don't mind the rearranging all that much. I just hope the spine can hold up.
I'm pretty sure those silver circles are part of the original illustration - if I remember correctly, the young Tatsumi is sitting in a field with a bunch of fireflies.
Yep, that monster looks as thick as Ode To Kirihito and MW.
The only bad thing about that is you can't really lug it around during a commute.
i'm thinking dirty thoughts in attempts to describe how excited and lusty i am for a copy.
@kouros: True story. In Japanese, it was in two chunky volumes
@nate: tatsumi, so sexy.
@JE: definitely, more of a sitting at a desk or in a recliner, type reading experience
@bittermelon: same here. salivating and counting down begins NOW.
